Notes
Forget the whole notion of going to one of those dreadful gourmet burger restaurants. What a waste of money! The Mega Beef Burger is without doubt the best burger ever to pass my lips, and I am sorry to admit, that's from quite a large field.
This is no ordinary burger. It has a rasher of back bacon and a fried egg on top. But merely adding those to a regular beef burger would not result in what we have here. No, this burger has some key ingredients that make the world of difference to the taste experience. The burger is made with barbecue sauce and Worcestershire sauce, with a generous amount of All-Purpose seasoning, garlic, onion, and parsley. A truly magnificent creation and heartily recommended.
Changes from Published Recipe
The burger in this recipe was (rather unsurprisingly considering its BBQ cookbook provenance) meant to be cooked on an outside griddle in the height of summer. Disregarding that, I made it in deepest Autumn, using my frying pan on my kitchen hob. The results were none the worse for my unorthodoxy. The book has the recipe making six Mega Burgers with 1kg of mince. I bought 500g to make 3, making sure I selected best quality less than 8% fat steak mince. The rest of the recipe lends itself to being halved, so there are no challenges with regards to scalability.
The recipe called for stale breadcrumbs; I happened to have fresh. and the mention of mesclun required a Google translation. It's mixed lettuce leaves. Apart from that, an easy recipe to put together and the patties are extremely generous - you won't need any French Fries as a side order.
